Middlesbrough 1-2 Sunderland

Sunderland make it through to the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-1 win after extra time over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Sunderland have made it through to the FA Cup fifth round with a 2-1 win after extra time over Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

Jack Colback gave the visitors a first-half lead when his powerful strike flew into the top corner.

Boro were on level terms ten minutes into the second half when Lukas Jutkiewicz calmly fired a low shot past Simon Mignolet.

As the game went into extra time, substitute Marvin Emnes had a chance to win it for the hosts, but his effort was blocked by a stubborn Sunderland defence.

Stephane Sessegnon grabbed the winner with five minutes left of extra time when he pounced in the crowded penalty area.

Martin O'Neill's side will face Arsenal in the next round.
