Payet explains Swansea snub

Marseille forward Dimitri Payet has claimed that he turned down a move to Swansea City because they are not a big club.

The 27-year-old was expected to join the Swans for around £7m this week before rejecting the switch.

While admitting that Swansea's offer was "very attractive" on a financial level, Payet insists that he never had any intention of moving to the Liberty Stadium.

"Am I attracted by Swansea proposition? With all respect I have for Swansea I am absolutely not attracted," he told L'Equipe. "Since first contact between the club and my agent, I declined the offer. I want to go on at l'OM.

"Indeed on a financial level the offer is very attractive, but being 27, I still have sporting objectives and I decided to stay. If a very big club wanted to contact me it would have done so already."

Payet, who has been capped seven times by France, joined Marseille from Lille last summer.
