Chesterfield draw a blank

Chesterfield miss the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after playing out a goalless draw against Mansfield Town in League Two.

Chesterfield have missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the table after they played out a goalless draw with Mansfield Town in their League Two clash.

Both teams struggled to create chances in the first-half, with Chesterfield's Marc Richards coming closest when he fired wide.

After the break, substitute Mason Bennett drilled a shot over the target, before he forced a fantastic save from Mansfield keeper Alan Marriott.

The game opened up in the later stages, with Mansfield's Sam Clucas seeing two efforts cleared off the line following a goalmouth scramble.

Neither side could find a winner, however, so the points were shared.
