Cox backs Murray to succeed

Former Mansfield Town manager Paul Cox believes that Adam Murray could permanently succeed him in the Stags hotseat.

Cox left the League Two club by mutual consent on Friday following a poor start to the season.

Murray, who was Cox's assistant at Field Mill, has been placed in caretaker charge of the Nottinghamshire outfit.

When asked about the 33-year-old becoming manager on a permanent basis, Cox told the Nottingham Post: "I would be delighted for him if he did get it because I have seen him develop into a fine young man.

"The proof will be in the pudding and how he goes over the next few games."

Murray led Mansfield to a 1-0 victory over Plymouth Argyle in his first match in charge on Saturday.
