Dwight Yorke advises Manchester United to sign three new players

Yorke: 'United need three new players'

Ex-Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has suggested that the club need to sign three new players this summer in order to compete for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils have been linked with a host of new players this summer, but have so far only added PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay.

Yorke believes that further additions are needed in attack, while he has urged manager Louis van Gaal to replace midfielder Michael Carrick and sign a new defender.

He told Sky Sports News: "We struggled defensively all season. Going forward, we had Angel di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, [Radamel] Falcao - but they haven't been able to deliver the devastating blow we know they are capable of doing.

"That may be a point where he may need to make some changes with another forward player. And when Michael Carrick is not playing we see how thin Manchester United look - Van Gaal needs to look at a holding midfielder."

United will kick off the 2015-16 campaign at home to Tottenham Hotspur.
