Teddy Sheringham: 'Manchester United should have got Mesut Ozil not Marouane Fellaini'

Former Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham feels that the club should have bought Mesut Ozil instead of Marouane Fellaini.

Former Manchester United forward Teddy Sheringham feels that the club should have pursued Mesut Ozil ahead of Marouane Fellaini in the transfer window.

The Red Devils signed Fellaini from Everton on deadline day for a reported £28m as Ozil left Real Madrid for Arsenal for a club record of around £42.5m.

Sheringham admitted that the champions would have been better served signing the German playmaker instead of the powerful Belgian.

"Out of Fellaini and Ozil you would really want Ozil to be your playmaker," Sheringham told The Express.

"I think Fellaini is too similar in a way to Michael Carrick, but I love Michael Carrick as a player, he makes things tick.

"It makes you think, 'where is Fellaini going to play?' If you spend £28m on someone you'd expect them to be playing."

Fellaini recently admitted to having difficulties adjusting to the training at United.
