Report: Villarreal join Juan Mata race

A report claims that Villarreal are in the hunt to sign Manchester United attacker Juan Mata in this summer's transfer window.

Villarreal are reportedly interested in bringing Manchester United attacker Juan Mata to El Madrigal.

Mata, 28, is a popular figure with the Man United supporters, but his future has been thrown into doubt due to the arrival of Jose Mourinho, who sold the attacker while the pair were at Chelsea.

Everton and Valencia have both been linked with moves for the Spain international, but according to Sport, Villarreal are now in the race as they prepare for Champions League football next season.

Mata moved to Old Trafford from Chelsea in January 2013 and has scored 26 times in 104 appearances for the Red Devils.

Despite the speculation, the attacking midfielder is expected to be a part of the Man United squad that faces Wigan Athletic in a friendly this weekend.
