Report: Manchester United place Everton's James McCarthy on wishlist

Report: Man Utd target McCarthy

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy this summer.

A major overhaul is expected at Old Trafford following the appointment of new manager Louis van Gaal on Monday.

While European stars including Toni Kroos, Cesc Fabregas and Thomas Muller have been linked with the Red Devils, it has been reported by Sky Sports News that McCarthy is one of United's top transfer targets.

It is believed that Everton are keen to offer a new deal to the 23-year-old, who moved to Goodison Park with manager Roberto Martinez from Wigan Athletic last summer.

However, reports have stated that United could try to lure McCarthy to Old Trafford by offering Tom Cleverley to the Toffees as part of the deal.
