Report: Manchester United tried to sign Stefan Savic in January

Manchester United reportedly came close to signing Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic in the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old has already played in England – representing Manchester City during the 2011-12 season before moving on to Fiorentina.

The centre-back's development in Italy has brought a host of interest from across Europe, with Barcelona said to hold a strong interest.

According to Sport, Man United tried to sign the Montenegro international in January, but ran out of time to complete the deal.

It is understood that the Premier League side will return with a bid this summer, however, with Louis van Gaal known to be an admirer of the tall defender.
