Report: Atletico Madrid want Juan Mata

A report claims that Atletico Madrid want to sign Manchester United attacker Juan Mata.

Atletico Madrid are reportedly confident of prising Juan Mata away from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

The Spanish international has scored eight times in 19 matches for United since joining from Chelsea in January 2014, including twice in five matches this season.

However, the attacker was recently dropped to accommodate Radamel Falcao and it is understood that United boss Louis van Gaal is open to selling the 26-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail, Atletico will make a move in January, but face competition from Mata's former club Valencia.

Mata returned to the United XI for Sunday's 2-1 win over Everton.
