Former England defender Danny Mills has claimed that Manchester United should sign experienced centre-back Gary Cahill on a free transfer ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
Cahill is available on a free this summer having left Chelsea following the expiration of his contract.
Mills has said that signing the 33-year-old would be "a no-brainer" for United, who are widely expected to move for a new central defender in this summer's transfer window.
"If you want someone to come in to play two thirds of the games next season, and also bring professionalism, experience and be someone players can learn from on and off the pitch - he can add all of those things to the club," Mills told talkSPORT.
"It's a no-brainer to take him. He'll just want to play and be a part of it... why aren't Manchester United interested? They're desperate for a centre-half."
Cahill made 290 appearances for Chelsea between 2012 and 2019, winning two Premier League titles, two FA Cups, one Champions League and two Europa League crowns during his time at the club.
United continue to be strongly linked with a move for Leicester City's Harry Maguire, but Foxes boss Brendan Rodgers recently revealed that the Red Devils had not yet matched the club's asking price.
