Manchester United's wage bill increases by almost 25% on the back of Cristiano Ronaldo making a return to Old Trafford during the summer.

The return of Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United has led to the club's wage bill rising by 23.1%.

When the Portuguese superstar became available during the summer transfer window, United acted swiftly to secure a reunion with the veteran forward.

Despite United's struggles since his arrival, the 36-year-old has made a huge impression, contributing nine goals from 12 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.

However, according to the club's latest financial results, the deal to bring Ronaldo back to The Theatre Of Dreams has led to their wage bill increasing by 23.1%.

While Ronaldo is said to earn in excess of £500,000 per week, United have also spent heavily to sign Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho.

In total, there was a rise of £16.6m over a three-month period up to and including September 30.
