Liverpool are reportedly hoping to beat bitter rivals Manchester United to the signing of Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez.
The 26-year-old, who played an important part in Atleti's La Liga title success in 2020-21, has once again been linked with a switch to Old Trafford this summer.
Saul has been on Los Colchoneros' books for the past 13 years, but he is supposedly seeking a fresh challenge away from the Wanda Metropolitano.
United are considered the favourites to land the Spain international, though Empire of the Kop suggests that Liverpool have also been alerted by his eagerness to leave.
It is claimed that the Reds are keen to bolster in midfield and will gazump any bid made by fellow Premier League side Manchester United.
Saul is under contract with Atletico until 2026, but the Spanish champions are believed to be ready to cash in for around £40m.
