Senne Lammens to Man United: Transfer fee 'revealed', potential debut date for goalkeeper with "an incredibly strong mentality"

Lammens to Man United: How much will the goalkeeper cost? When could he make his debut?

Manchester United are reportedly on the verge of signing Royal Antwerp goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

The Red Devils have been linked with the 23-year-old throughout this summer's transfer window, with a new goalkeeper believed to be a priority for the Red Devils before the market closes.

Andre Onana missed pre-season with a hamstring issue, which contributed to Altay Bayindir being given the nod between the sticks against Arsenal in the opening match of the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

Man United head coach Ruben Amorim is believed to be leaning towards recalling Onana for Sunday's game against Fulham, with Bayindir making a mistake which led to Arsenal scoring last time out.

However, Onana has also made his fair share of mistakes during his two seasons in Manchester, and it is understood that Amorim has demanded the signing of a new stopper before the market closes.

Man United 'on the verge' of signing Lammens from Antwerp

Paris Saint-Germain's Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford, but it is understood that Lammens has always been the team's first choice in that area of the field.

Earlier on Friday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano said that Man United had almost come to an agreement with Lammens over personal terms, while they have been in talks with Antwerp.

According to The Guardian, Man United are now nearing the signing of the Belgian in a deal worth £17m.

The 6ft 3in goalkeeper is expected to compete with Onana for the gloves this season, which suggests that Bayindir, despite starting the Premier League opener, will leave before the end of the transfer window.

Should Man United complete a deal in the coming days, Lammens would be in line to make his debut for the 20-time English champions in their Premier League clash with Burnley at Old Trafford on August 30.

Lammens "has an incredibly strong mentality", claims Belgian football expert

Belgian football expert Bart Tamsyn has offered the lowdown on Lammens, calling him a player with "an incredibly strong mentality".

“At Brugge, Lammens was already considered by the whole of Belgium to be a great goalkeeping talent, perhaps the greatest not to have come through the KRC Genk academy," Tamsyn told transfermarkt.

"However, he had the misfortune of being blocked by Simon Mignolet. That is why he decided not to renew his contract and to move to Antwerp in the summer of 2023. There, he was initially Jean Butez's understudy, before becoming first-choice goalkeeper last season.

“Lammens has an incredibly strong mentality and remains calm in all circumstances. He also proved last season that he has real goalkeeping qualities, as no one made more saves in the Jupiler Pro League than he did. In addition, Lammens is a goalkeeper who looks for the footballing solution and is comfortable with both his right and left foot.

"To be truly top-class, he just needs to improve his accuracy. He dares to make a mistake every game, usually because he still lacks experience in certain situations.

"These are usually minor mistakes, such as a poor kick, but a few have led to goals being conceded due to a misplaced pass or misjudgement of the situation. However, given that he has only just completed his first season as first-choice goalkeeper, he certainly has room for improvement.”

The goalkeeper has featured on 64 occasions for Antwerp, keeping 12 clean sheets in the process, since arriving from Club Brugge in 2023.
