Juventus make moves to ward off Manchester United's interest in 22-year-old defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to a report.

Juventus have made moves to ward off Manchester United's interest in defender Matthijs de Ligt, according to a report.

The 22-year-old is said to be of interest to United ahead of the summer transfer window, with incoming boss Erik ten Hag said to be keen on a reunion with the defender.

De Ligt was part of the Ajax side managed by Ten Hag that reached the Champions League semi-finals in 2019, before the former made the £77m move to Juventus later that summer.

The Turin side are keen to tie down the future of the Dutchman though, and Tuttomercato are reporting that the Serie A side have offered two new contracts in an attempt to swat away interest from the Red Devils.

De Ligt still has two years left on his contract in Italy, but the report suggests that Juventus wish to extend the deal in order to avoid losing the defender for a cut-price fee when he enters the final 12 months of the contract next year.

One such offer would extend De Ligt's stay at the Old Lady until 2026, whilst another would reportedly see his salary decrease, but would also reduce the release clause included within his current deal.

United's transfer plans will begin to take shape over the next few weeks, with Ten Hag said to already be in England in order to make a quick start to his role at Old Trafford ahead of next season.
