Manchester United could reportedly sign Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes for £35m during this summer's transfer window.
The Red Devils are preparing to overhaul their midfield department this summer, with Casemiro's exit on a free transfer already being confirmed, while it is likely that Manuel Ugarte will also leave.
As a result, there are expected to be at least two signings in that area of the field, with Nottingham Forest's Elliot Anderson and Newcastle United's Sandro Tonali thought to be their leading targets.
However, the club are also believed to be admirers of Gomes, with the Brazilian set to leave Wolves during this summer's transfer market.
The 25-year-old arrived at Wolves from Flamengo in 2023, and he has represented his current side on 124 occasions in all competitions, scoring eight goals and registering six assists.
Man United target Gomes 'available' for £35m this summer
Gomes has scored once and registered three assists in 35 appearances at club level this season, including one goal and one assist in 29 Premier League fixtures.
The Brazilian has a contract at Molineux until June 2030, with the option of a further year, but Wolves are heading for relegation to the Championship.
Wolves are bottom of the Premier League table, 13 points behind 17th-placed Tottenham Hotspur with only seven games of the campaign left to play.
According to CaughtOffside, Gomes' asking price this summer would be in the region of £52m if Wolves were still a Premier League club for the 2026-27 campaign.
However, the club's expected relegation will see his price drop to around £35m.
Should Man United move for Gomes?
Man United will not have a free run at Gomes, with Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Napoli also believed to be keen on his signature.
It has not been the season that Wolves would have wanted, but Gomes has once again been a standout, and considering his age (25), £35m is a real bargain for a player of his quality.
Man United could end up signing three central midfielders this summer rather than two, and the 20-time English champions should be looking at a 'bargain' deal for the Wolves star.
