Bayern Munich have been linked with a move for Phil Foden ahead of the summer transfer window, although their actual transfer plans may lie elsewhere.
A product of Manchester City’s academy, Foden has made 360 appearances and scored 110 goals since his senior debut in 2017.
The 25-year-old has not been at his prolific best this season, but still boasts a respectable return of 10 goals and five assists across all competitions.
Speculation over his future has grown amid reported interest from Bayern, though City are said to be working towards securing him on a new long-term deal.
Fresh talks have reportedly taken place, with increasing confidence that an agreement will be reached before the end of the season.
Are Bayern interested in signing Foden?
Interest from Bayern is understandable, particularly given Vincent Kompany’s admiration for the player, having previously shared the dressing room with him during his time at City.
However, according to Christian Falk, Bayern are not engaged in any concrete move to sign Foden this summer.
The England international remains under contract until 2027 and is valued at around £70m, a figure considered beyond Bayern’s current budget for an attacking midfielder.
Why Phil Foden is not needed at Bayern Munich
Foden’s versatility allows him to operate on the right flank or in a central attacking role, but Bayern are already well stocked in those areas.
Michael Olise remains the first-choice option on the right, while rising talent Lennart Karl has also emerged as a reliable candidate with a bright future at Bayern.
Meanwhile, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala are expected to operate behind Harry Kane, leaving little need for reinforcement in Foden’s position.
Instead, Bayern are prioritising a backup option on the left wing to support Luis Diaz, preferably a low-profile signing willing to accept a secondary role in the squad.
