The much-publicised £65m release clause in Erling Braut Haaland's Borussia Dortmund contract will not come into play for another two years, according to a report.

Real Madrid and Manchester United's hopes of landing Erling Braut Haaland on the cheap have reportedly been scuppered, as his Borussia Dortmund release clause does not come into effect until 2022.

The Norway international has hit the ground running since Dortmund won the race for his signature in the January transfer window, scoring 12 goals in his first 11 matches.

Despite only arriving at the Westfalenstadion three months ago, Madrid and United - two of the teams keen on signing him at the turn of the year - are rumoured to be weighing up offers for the summer window.

However, German publication Bild claims that the £65m release clause thought to exist in Haaland's contract will not come into play for another two years.

With Dortmund under no pressure to sell, that will likely mean any interested clubs having to pay upwards of £100m for the 19-year-old.

Madrid and United are also believed to be going head-to-head for the signing of another Dortmund youngster in Jadon Sancho.
