Sir Alex Ferguson explains Frederic Veseli signing

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has revealed that the signing of Frederic Veseli came about by chance.

The 19-year-old defender joined United's reserve squad last month after being released by local rivals Manchester City.

"It actually came about by chance that," Ferguson told MUTV. "A member of our scouting department came and told us City had released this young lad from Switzerland and they'd watched him playing a couple of years back.

"There was nothing to be lost. We thought we'd take him until the end of the season and see how he does. Hopefully he does well."

Veseli has made four appearances for Switzerland's Under-20s side.
