Man United transfer news: 'Formal' offer made for Benjamin Sesko, fee to rival Newcastle United 'revealed'

Decision time: Man United rival Newcastle with 'formal' Sesko offer, fee 'revealed'

Manchester United have reportedly submitted a formal offer to sign RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.

Even with Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo having been added to Ruben Amorim's squad, the Red Devils are in the market for a new central striker.

In recent days, it has become apparent that Sesko is their preferred target, the Slovenia international able to depart RB Leipzig for the right price.

However, Man United face fierce competition from Newcastle United, who may soon need to replace Alexander Isak if Liverpool persist with trying to sign the Sweden international for a British record transfer fee.

On Monday, the suggestion was that Newcastle had proposed a package worth in the region of €90m (£78.24m) for the in-demand 22-year-old.

Man United respond to Newcastle Sesko bid

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, Man United have made their own official attempt to win the race for the Slovenia international.

Ornstein, who was commenting on X, says that Man United have put forward a combination of €75m (£65.2m) plus €10m (£8.69m) in add-ons.

Despite that offer being below Newcastle's, Man United are insistent that the offer proposed is their valuation of the player.

Furthermore, they are seemingly of the opinion that Sesko would prefer a move to the Theatre of Dreams rather than St James' Park.

RB Leipzig are allegedly yet to respond to Man United's offer, but it is in the ballpark that they may be prepared to accept given that they are not competing in Europe next season.

Newcastle to miss out...again?

As it stands, Newcastle appear to be in a position where they will be back to square one as they consider how to replace Isak.

Hugo Ekitike has already turned them down to sign for Liverpool, and everything is pointing to Sesko down the same to join Man United.

Brentford's Yoane Wissa and Chelsea's Nicolas Jackson have each been linked with Newcastle, yet Eddie Howe may wish to sign someone of a different profile to become first choice.

Either way, Howe knows that Newcastle have to get a deal over the line sooner rather than later, as well as resolve Isak's future ahead of facing Aston Villa in their Premier League opener on August 16.
