Michael Carrick eager to sign new Manchester United deal

Carrick hoping to sign new deal

Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has revealed that he is eager to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Carrick's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but the club does have the option to extend the contract by 12 months should Louis van Gaal decide that he remains a key part of his plans.

Despite not yet entering talks with United over an extension, the 33-year-old insists that he is expecting to be contacted in the near future.

"I haven't expected it to be honest," Carrick told the Manchester Evening News. "It will probably be around Christmas or after that."

Asked whether he wanted to remain at United, he added: "Of course. I've got nowhere else to go."

It was revealed on Wednesday that Carrick would miss England's upcoming games against Slovenia and Scotland due to a groin problem.
