Josep Maria Bartomeu: 'Barcelona working on Samuel Umtiti deal'

Bartomeu: 'Barca working on Umtiti deal'

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu has revealed that the club are hopeful of reaching an agreement with Samuel Umtiti over a new contract.

The French centre-back has a low release clause of around £52m inserted in his current deal, leading to rumours that Manchester United are considering an approach.

Amid fresh uncertainty surrounding Umtiti's future, with the Red Devils one of a few teams to have been linked, Bartomeu has confirmed that discussions remain ongoing to find a solution to the standoff.

"Umtiti has a contract. We are talking with him to renew it," he told RAC1. "We try to maintain a salary structure that has a certain harmony.

"We will try to reach an agreement because he has had a good season. The important thing is that we work in peace."

Umtiti, who joined from Lyon in 2016, has featured 25 times for Barcelona in La Liga this season and a further 13 times in other competitions.
