How Man Utd could line up against Sheffield United

Manchester United host fellow Champions League hopefuls Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Wednesday night in what will be their first home game since the coronavirus shutdown.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men returned to action with a 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur on Friday, although results over the rest of the weekend left them five points adrift of the top four.

As things stand United's current position of fifth would be good enough for Champions League football next season, but they are level on points with Wolverhampton Wanderers and only two points above Sheffield United, so defeat on Wednesday could prove costly.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Red Devils could line up for the contest.

The big team news for United on Wednesday night is bound to surround Paul Pogba, who made a telling impact off the bench against Tottenham, including winning the penalty from which Bruno Fernandes scored their equaliser.

The partnership between Pogba and Fernandes is one which many are hugely excited to see, and they could start together for the first time if Pogba makes his first Premier League start since September.

Victor Lindelof limped off with 12 minutes remaining of the match against Spurs, but his injury is not thought to be too serious and he could be in contention to start alongside Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence once again.

Maguire and goalkeeper David de Gea were among the players savagely criticised by former United skipper Roy Keane for their roles in Tottenham's goal, but both retain the confidence of Solskjaer and will not be dropped.

Indeed, aside from Pogba's inclusion - which could come at the expense of either Scott McTominay or Fred - United could name an unchanged side for this match with Anthony Martial leading the line, Marcus Rashford on the left and Daniel James on the right.
