How Manchester United could line up against Southampton

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has suggested that Raphael Varane will be a part of the squad that travels to Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Varane is in line to make his debut for the 20-time English champions, but it seems likely that he will start on the bench, with Victor Lindelof set to keep his spot alongside Harry Maguire in the middle of the defence.

The Red Devils remain without the services of Marcus Rashford, Alex Telles and Dean Henderson, while Phil Jones is unlikely to feature despite playing in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley earlier this week.

Jesse Lingard is in contention, though, having recovered from coronavirus, while Edinson Cavani is back at the club and could potentially make the bench this weekend.

Jadon Sancho is in line for his full debut, having appeared off the bench against Leeds, and there is a strong chance that the England international could replace Daniel James in the starting XI.

Solskjaer could otherwise decide to keep faith with the same that took to the field for the first whistle against Leeds, with Paul Pogba, who contributed four assists last weekend, operating off the left.

Fred and Scott McTominay should keep their spots in the middle of the park, with Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood also retaining their positions in the first XI at St Mary's.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire, Shaw; Fred, McTominay; Sancho, Fernandes, Pogba; Greenwood
