How Man United could line up against Arsenal

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag will have to work around the absence of Raphael Varane for Sunday's Premier League encounter with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

The French centre-back was withdrawn at half time in last weekend's 3-2 success over Nottingham Forest, and he is confirmed to be facing a few weeks on the sidelines with that unspecified problem.

Varane is welcomed into a packed treatment room by Luke Shaw (muscle), Tyrell Malacia (muscle), Mason Mount (thigh), Kobbie Mainoo (ankle), Amad Diallo (knee) and Tom Heaton (calf), but Rasmus Hojlund should recover from his troublesome back injury to make his competitive debut for the club.

With Anthony Martial still failing to cut the mustard up front, Hojlund could spearhead the attack at the Emirates, as Marcus Rashford takes up his favoured role on the left-hand side.

Bruno Fernandes and Antony ought to complete a familiar-looking attacking lineup, as Casemiro and Christian Eriksen - who both netted in the thrilling comeback win over Forest - line up at the base of the midfield as soon-to-be Fiorentina loanee Sofyan Amrabat is made to wait for his debut.

With Varane sidelined, Victor Lindelof should get the nod over Harry Maguire to join Lisandro Martinez in the heart of the backline, offering protection to undisputed number one Andre Onana, who now has Altay Bayindir as backup.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka's spot at right-back is not under any threat either, and while Tottenham Hotspur loanee Sergio Reguilon is available, his lack of recent action may lead to Diogo Dalot starting on the left again.

Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Martinez, Dalot; Casemiro, Eriksen; Antony, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund
