Nemanja Vidic expected Manchester United fans to support Wayne Rooney

Nemanja Vidic says that he expected the Manchester United fans to show their support to Wayne Rooney during the club's draw with Chelsea.

Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic has claimed that he expected the club's supporters to give Wayne Rooney a warm reception, despite doubts over his future.

The England international has been linked with a switch to Chelsea throughout the summer window, but the 27-year-old received the backing of Red Devils' fans during Monday night's goalless draw with the Blues.

"He has scored so many goals and won so many trophies," Sky Sports News quotes Vidic as saying. "I expected him to receive a good reception.

"The supporters have always supported the players. Wayne is no different. He has been supported throughout the years and I don't think there was a question he would have been supported against Chelsea."

Reports have claimed that Rooney is expected to snub a move away from Old Trafford before the transfer deadline, and could instead sign a new deal at the club.
