Jonjo Shelvey apologises to Sir Alex Ferguson

Jonjo Shelvey says sorry to Sir Alex Ferguson after the pair have a verbal altercation at Anfield earlier today.

Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that he has apologised to Manchester United Sir Alex Ferguson for the pair's verbal altercation at Anfield this afternoon.

Shelvey was dismissed during the first half of his side's 2-1 loss to the Red Devils for a challenge on Jonny Evans.

As the attacking midfielder left the field, he was seen to point his finger in the direction of United boss Ferguson, while also shouting at the Scot.

Having had time to reflect on his actions, the 20-year-old has decided to say sorry.

"I apologise to the fans for getting sent off but no way was I pulling out of that tackle in a game of that importance. Im sorry," he wrote on Twitter. "I have also apologised to Sir Alex , just where I come from people don't grass people up to get someone sent off."

The scores were level at 0-0 when Shelvey was dismissed.
