Luke Shaw: 'Criticism has made me stronger'

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw feels that criticism of his game following his move from Southampton has made him a better player.

Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has revealed that he is determined to prove his worth to the club after receiving criticism following his move from Southampton.

The 19-year-old signed for the Red Devils for £27m in the summer, but struggled for form early in the season due to issues with his fitness.

However, Shaw put in a solid performance against Crystal Palace in his side's 1-0 win, and he has revealed that he is starting to feel comfortable in his role at the club.

"At the start there was a few people questioning whether it was the right move to come here, but I'm feeling really good about myself now and hopefully the critics can turn it around now to more positive stuff because there was a lot of negativity about me," Shaw told reporters.

"I just take it on the chin and I try to prove everyone wrong. You could say that criticism made me stronger because obviously you read it and everyone gets involved in media and what people say.

"So it's something that inspired me to push harder, work harder, train harder and prove people wrong and I've had a few good games. That's not going to prove it to everyone but I'm willing to keep on improving and show people why they bought me."

United are seventh in the Premier League following their win over Palace.
