Rooney's father to face no further action over alleged betting scam

The father of Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney will face no further action following claims that he had been involved in a betting scam.

Thomas Rooney was arrested at his Liverpool home in October 2011 following suspicious betting activity surrounding Motherwell's 2-1 defeat to Hearts in December 2010.

Anthony Barnfather, solicitor for Mr Rooney Snr, stated: "Mr Rooney Sr has always vigorously denied the allegations and maintained his innocence throughout the investigation. He is delighted the matter has now concluded."

Wayne Rooney's uncle, Richie, who was also arrested, has denied any wrongful action.
