Rooney apologises to injured fan

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has apologised to a young fan after he broke the nine-year-old's wrist with a stray shot.

The incident happened during the warm-up before United's 5-0 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday.

Jamie Thomas, who was watching the Red Devils for the first time, was struck by a wayward effort from the England international.

"I want to apologise to Jamie Thomas," Rooney tweeted. "I have arranged for a letter and a signed shirt to be sent to his home address."

Rooney has scored 28 goals in all competitions for the Premier League leaders this season.
