Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho admits that his side's 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford feels more like a defeat.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has admitted that his side's 1-1 draw with Arsenal this afternoon feels like a defeat.

United enjoyed the better chances against an under-par Arsenal, but Olivier Giroud's 89th-minute header cancelled out Juan Mata's opener to seal a point for the Gunners.

Mourinho was delighted with how his side defended for the vast majority of the game, and insists that they should not feel too disheartened by Arsenal's late equaliser.

"The work was good, they are working well. [Phil] Jones and [Marcos] Rojo did not go to the national team, they stayed and we worked in the past two weeks. They are working so, so well. Antonio [Valencia] had a broken arm, but he played amazingly well. Top players like [Alexis] Sanchez, [Mesut] Ozil, [Theo] Walcott - we saw nothing from them because of us, not because of them," he told the club's official website.

"We had good chances: if [Wayne] Rooney had passed to [Paul] Pogba he has an open goal. Rojo had a header with an open goal. We had chances to kill the game at 2-0 but out of nothing, 1-1. The players are quiet. They feel like it is a defeat and they are very disappointed.

"But I told them, the worse feeling is when you are upset with yourself because you didn't perform or you made big mistakes, but they cannot have that feeling. They have to be proud with what they did, but obviously they are very disappointed because we lost two points against a very good team that did not have a shot [on target]."

United have now won just two of their last nine Premier League games.
