Juan Mata frustrated with wide role

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata urges manager David Moyes to experiment with him in a number 10 role.

Manchester United attacker Juan Mata has admitted that he would prefer manager David Moyes to deploy him in a number 10 role.

The Spain international has featured primarily on the flanks since sealing a club-record £37.1m move to Old Trafford in January.

However, Mata, who won Chelsea's Player of the Year award via his contribution from a central role last season, feels that he can be of better service for United when playing behind forwards.

He told BT Sport: "I love to play between the lines. Right now I am playing on the right but to honest I don't see myself as a proper winger. I like to play between the lines as a number 10.

"[When I] come inside, that is where I feel comfortable to play, to keep in touch with the ball because I love to play in possession and with the ball."

The 25-year-old has yet to open his account for the Red Devils but has registered three assists in his six games since leaving the Blues.
