Andre Marriner appointed for Manchester United vs. Arsenal clash

Andre Marriner will officiate the Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Arsenal for the first time when the two sides lock horns next weekend.

The Premier League has announced that Andre Marriner will officiate next weekend's standout fixture between Manchester United and Arsenal at Old Trafford.

The 45-year-old has officiated eight top-flight games so far this season, including Jose Mourinho's first competitive match in charge of the Red Devils at Bournemouth in August.

Marriner, who has booked 29 players and sent off just one this term, has not run the rule over an Arsenal game in 2016-17 and has never previously reffed in this high-profile fixture.

Mourinho has previously openly criticised the Birmingham whistler, who was the fourth official for Chelsea's meeting with Tottenham Hotspur in January 2015 when Eden Hazard was denied what looked to be a certain penalty.

Arsenal can go top with victory at the home of their rivals, while United will be searching for a third league win in nine outings.
