Premier League referee Mark Halsey has confirmed that he will hold talks with police later this week after suffering abuse on Twitter.
Halsey made an official complaint to police on Monday after receiving messages following his participation in Manchester United's 2-1 win against Liverpool last weekend.
The 51-year-old told BBC Sport: "I can confirm that my family have made a complaint to the police.
"I will be speaking to the police on Wednesday after I have returned from refereeing Southampton v Sheffield Wednesday."
Halsey sent off Jonjo Shelvey and awarded United a late penalty during a fiercely competitive match at Anfield, in a performance which drew criticism from Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers and captain Steven Gerrard.
