Sir Alex Ferguson thinks that Manchester United proved their title credentials with a spirited comeback win against Newcastle United this afternoon.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has insisted that his side showed their title pedigree in snatching a late win over Newcastle United.

The Magpies led three times at Old Trafford but a winner at the death from Javier Hernandez earned United three precious points.

Ferguson believes that overcoming some poor officiating to beat Newcastle repairs the damage of two dropped points at Swansea City on Sunday.

He told BBC Sport: "I thought it was a bad decision for the own goal. If you see it again he's offside he's also grabbed Jonny Evans on the arm and if that's not interference what is interference?

"December is always a big month. We dropped two points at Swansea but me made up for it today. It was a real championship performance."

United are seven points clear at the Premier League summit following Manchester City's defeat at Sunderland this afternoon.
