Fabio Capello compares Phil Jones to AC Milan legend Franco Baresi.

Fabio Capello has compared Manchester United defender Phil Jones to Italian legend Franco Baresi.

The England boss, who revealed that he would start the former Blackburn man in midfield against Spain earlier this week, hopes that he can excel in midfield even more than the former AC Milan defender did.

"[Baresi] was really good as a defender," said Capello. "As a midfielder, he was so-so.

"I hope [Jones] is better there. Phil Jones has got a lot of qualities, really good qualities. His potential is the top.

"You need quality to be able to do this. When you go forward, when you arrive in the last metres near the box, his passing is really good. He can shoot. He can get to the goal."

Jones will partner Tottenham's Scott Parker against Spanish duo Xavi and Andres Iniesta at Wembley.
