Ryan Giggs optimistic over League Cup progress

Ryan Giggs believes that Manchester United can still reach the League Cup final despite Tuesday's 2-1 defeat to Sunderland.

Ryan Giggs has insisted that Manchester United still have a good chance of reaching the League Cup final despite Tuesday's defeat to Sunderland.

The Red Devils were beaten 2-1 at the Stadium of Light as the Black Cats earned a narrow victory in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

Despite the loss, Giggs believes that United can put things right when the teams meet in the return leg at Old Trafford on January 22.

"We will keep plugging away and we will look forward to the second leg," the veteran told MUTV. "We are still in it and we look forward to it at Old Trafford.

"We created enough chances, but unfortunately the decisions went against us. We were quite happy with our performance.

"We felt we did enough to at least get a draw, although I think we can work on the quality of our crosses and shots when we get into the final third."

United continue the defence of their Premier League title on Saturday when they entertain Swansea City.
