Louis van Gaal has admitted that Robin van Persie is unlikely to be available for next weekend's Manchester derby.

The striker, who has missed Manchester United's last five matches because of an ankle complaint, has already been ruled out of today's home encounter with Aston Villa.

There had been suggestions that the 31-year-old could return for the clash against rivals Manchester City on April 12, but when asked if that would be the case, Van Gaal told reporters: "I don't think so."

Van Persie has scored 10 goals in 25 outings this term.
