Luke Shaw returns to Man United training after three months out

Manchester United have announced that Luke Shaw has returned to training, with the left-back recovering from the muscular issue that he suffered against Tottenham Hotspur in August.

The 28-year-old has only made two appearances for the Red Devils this season, having picked up the problem during the contest with Tottenham in the team's second match of the new Premier League campaign.

Shaw's injury, coupled with Tyrell Malacia's absence due to knee surgery, led to Man United bringing in Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the transfer window.

Man United have been without Shaw for their last 10 Premier League matches, in addition to their four games in the group stage of the Champions League.

However, the left-back is now back in training with the 20-time English champions ahead of their return to Premier League action away to Everton on Sunday afternoon.

"Manchester United have received a major boost ahead of the return to Premier League action, with Luke Shaw back in training," read a statement on the club's official website.

"Our cameras at Carrington have captured images of the left-back working with the main group, in advance of Sunday's game at Everton."

Despite his return, it would still be a surprise to see Shaw come straight back into the side against Everton, although a spot in the squad cannot be ruled out.

Man United will follow the clash against Sean Dyche's side with a trip to Turkey to take on Galatasaray in the Champions League, with the Red Devils needing to win the match to stand a chance of advancing to the last-16 stage of the competition.

The 20-time English champions will then have three straight Premier League matches against Newcastle United, Chelsea and Bournemouth before hosting Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Shaw signed a new long-term contract with Man United back in April, and he was a vital player for Erik ten Hag in the Dutchman's first season at the helm, featuring on 47 occasions in 2023-24.

Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans, Malacia and Amad Diallo are all definitely out of Sunday's game with Everton through injury.

Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana will both need to be assessed due to recent injuries, while Jadon Sancho is still not involved with the first team at the club.

However, there is expected to be a return for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who missed the clash with Luton Town before the international break through illness.
