Ronald Koeman backs Luke Shaw to return to "good level" following leg break

Koeman backs Shaw to return to "good level"

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has backed Luke Shaw to return to a "good level" once he recovers from a broken leg.

The Manchester United full-back, who moved to Old Trafford from Southampton last year, is expected to be on the sidelines for six months after undergoing surgery on Tuesday.

The 20-year-old remains in hospital in Holland after he suffered the injury during United's 2-1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven in their opening group match in the Champions League.

"It's a player from the academy of Southampton," Koeman said in this afternoon's press conference. "We wish the player a speedy recovery. It will be a tough time for the player but I think he's strong enough to come back on a good level."

Reports have claimed that Shaw will have a second operation in Eindhoven today.
