Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho confirms that Marouane Fellaini suffered a knee ligament injury during his short cameo in the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Marouane Fellaini suffered a knee ligament injury during this evening's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur.

Fellaini was brought on for Jesse Lingard just past the hour mark at Wembley, but he lasted less than seven minutes before limping off and being replaced by Ander Herrera.

The Belgian reacted angrily to the setback and immediately stormed down the tunnel, leading to some suggestions that his withdrawal was not due to injury, but Mourinho has confirmed that he is suffering with a knee problem.

"He came off because he had something in his knee. Unlucky for him and unlucky for me. He came on with enthusiasm, but he has an injury in his ligament," he told BBC Sport.

United went on to lose the game 2-0, leaving them 15 points adrift of leaders Manchester City.
