Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that an injury could force Harry Maguire to miss Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that "a knock" could force Harry Maguire to sit out Saturday's Premier League clash with Newcastle United.

The centre-back's form has been heavily criticised in the early weeks of the campaign, while he was sent off in England's UEFA Nations League clash with Denmark on Wednesday night.

There have been calls for Solskjaer to take the Red Devils skipper out of the firing line after a tough period which also saw him arrested while on holiday in Mykonos.

The 27-year-old could be forced to miss Saturday's clash with Newcastle, though, with "a knock" picked up against Denmark making him an injury doubt for the contest.

"In football you're in the headlights all the time, and when Harry is part of the England team that beats No 1-ranked Belgium it's a normal day, and then you get the headlines when you get a sending off, that's football for you, there's so many ups and downs, we have to deal with it individually and as a group," Solskjaer told reporters.

"Harry has got great resilience, I know he'll bounce back, I know he wants to play and work his way out of the last couple of games he's been criticised, he picked up a knock just before he came off. So, I'm just hopeful he'll be fit, I had a look at him yesterday and we'll test him today."

Should Maguire miss out against the Magpies then Victor Lindelof would likely return to the back four to partner Eric Bailly, although Axel Tuanzebe is also now available following a spell on the sidelines.
