A closer look at Jadon Sancho's start to his Manchester United career

Sports Mole takes a close look at how Jadon Sancho has performed for Manchester United this season.

Jadon Sancho has made nine appearances for Manchester United since arriving from Borussia Dortmund over the summer transfer window, and the attacker is yet to register a goal or an assist.

The 21-year-old made the move to Old Trafford off the back of a brilliant spell at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 50 goals and registered 64 assists in 137 appearances in all competitions.

Sancho's start to his Man United career has been slow, but it would be fair to say that Cristiano Ronaldo's return to the club in the latter stages of the summer transfer window overshadowed his own move.

The attacker is currently with the England squad on international duty and will be hoping that the time away can help him kickstart his career with the 20-time English champions.

Here, Sports Mole takes a close look at how Sancho has performed for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side since the start of the 2021-22 campaign.

Sancho has only started twice for Man United in the Premier League this season, with his other four appearances in England's top flight this term coming from the bench, and he has totalled 233 minutes of league action for Solskjaer's side since his arrival.

In the Champions League, Sancho started both matches against Young Boys and Villarreal, but he was taken off in the 37th minute against the former due to Aaron Wan-Bissaka's red card, while he was replaced in the 75th minute of the game against the latter, when Ronaldo scored late to win it.

Sancho did play the full 90 minutes against West Ham United in the EFL Cup on September 22 but that contest, which Man United lost 1-0, is the only match where he has both started and finished.

In the Premier League, the England international has an average pass success rate of 85%, but he has only averaged 0.8 dribbles per game, while his shots per game in the league this season is down at 0.5.

Interestingly, despite the 1-0 defeat, Sancho's most productive match in terms of output came against West Ham in the EFL Cup, where he had five shots and made two tackles.

There are reasons to be optimistic, though, as the former Manchester City youngster enjoyed arguably his best cameo for the club in their 1-1 draw with Everton before the international break.

Indeed, Sancho entered the field in the 57th minute of the clash with the Toffees and had one shot, completed two dribbles and boasted a pass success rate of 90%.

Many believed that Sancho would operate off the right for Man United, but he has only featured in that area of the field on one occasion this season, against Southampton in the Premier League on August 22.

The attacker has otherwise played off the left, largely due to the presence of Mason Greenwood, but he has found it difficult to form a relationship with the likes of Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba thus far.

Sancho's fee - in the region of £73m - means that there is immediate pressure on the player to deliver, but he had never played in the Premier League before moving to Old Trafford.

The former Watford youngster showed his immense quality during his time at Dortmund, though, proving that he can both score and assist at the highest level.

Man United's lack of pattern and style has not helped Sancho in terms of settling in the side; indeed, the Red Devils are still a team that play in moments, relying on individuals to win them games with pieces of brilliance.

Sancho will be expected to provide plenty of those moments along the way, but his performance against Everton was a positive step forward, and he will be hoping to be given the chance to start against Leicester City in the Premier League on October 16.
