Manchester United's Matteo Darmian: "We want to make our fans proud"

Matteo Darmian believes that Manchester United will face a difficult test when taking on Everton, but is hopeful of advancing to the FA Cup final to reward supporters.

Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has insisted that he and his teammates will head to Wembley with one intention this weekend - making supporters proud.

The Red Devils have endured an underwhelming campaign to date, exiting both European competitions and also falling short in the Premier League.

A chance to end the club's three-year wait for silverware is on the line this weekend when United take on Everton in the FA Cup semi-final, but Darmian is expecting a difficult afternoon in the capital against an out-of-form Toffees side.

"We want to make our fans proud and try to win the trophy," he told BBC Sport. "Manchester United are used to winning trophies. It is the first time I will have been to Wembley and I want to enjoy it. But it won't be easy."

Darmian's impressive start to life at Old Trafford appeared to slow down somewhat following a string of injury problems and a loss of form, which the former Torino man puts down to a change of environment.

"The game in England is more physical and less tactical," he added. "All of the teams play stronger. It is always difficult to change culture."

United last lifted the FA Cup in 2004, appearing in just one final since then when losing to Chelsea three years later.
