Half-Time Report: Manchester United in control against Cambridge United

Man Utd in control against Cambridge

Manchester United have one foot in the fifth round of the FA Cup after opening up a 2-0 lead over Cambridge United at half time in their replay at Old Trafford this evening.

Cambridge came close to taking the lead less than a minute into the tie as Tom Elliott burst forward for the visitors, beating David de Gea with a curling shot only for the post to keep it out.

United soon started to dominate possession, with Angel di Maria attempting to cross the ball in several times, but Josh Coulson made a string of blocks to deny the home side an early goal.

Wayne Rooney found himself with the ball on the edge of the box, but the captain was crowded out as he turned, while another chance for the striker from a similar position moments later was well held by Chris Dunn.

Louis van Gaal's side continued to apply the pressure though, and eventually broke the deadlock when Juan Mata connected with a Marouane Fellaini flick-on following another dangerous Di Maria cross.

It took the hosts just seven minutes to double their advantage as Marcos Rojo netted for the first time for the club, heading in from close range after Robin van Persie played it in.

Rooney could have made it three shortly before the break when a long ball forward fell to him on the edge of the box, but he mishit his volley, slicing it well wide.
