Nemanja Vidic could make an early return to the pitch for Manchester United against CFR Cluj in the Champions League on Wednesday following knee surgery.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that defender Nemanja Vidic could return to action against CFR Cluj in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The 31-year-old has been out of action for the Red Devils since September after he was required to undergo knee surgery.

While Ferguson initially claimed that the Serbian would not return until Christmas, reports this morning revealed that Vidic has been involved in training this week.

"It would be nice for him to play on Wednesday, we're not afraid of that," Sky Sports News quotes Ferguson as saying.

The former English champions have already qualified for the knockout rounds of the Champions League.
