Wayne Rooney hoping for better Bernabeu experience

Manchester United's Wayne Rooney hopes that his experience of the Bernabeu is more positive tomorrow than his first visit back in 2004.

Wayne Rooney has expressed his hope that he has a more enjoyable experience at the Bernabeu than his first visit almost nine years ago.

The 27-year-old was substituted just before half time during England's 1-0 defeat to Spain in November 2004.

However, the striker has revealed his desire to banish those memories when his Manchester United side take on Real Madrid in the Champions League in the same stadium tomorrow night.

"Yes I've played at the Bernabeu once before for England against Spain, but it wasn't a good experience to be honest," he told Givemefootball.com.

"I got subbed just before half time, and didn't really get many touches because Spain kept the ball really well. Hopefully this time it will go a lot better."

Rooney is expected to start alongside Robin van Persie in attack for United against their Spanish hosts.
