Ralf Rangnick explains Anthony Martial absence

Ralf Rangnick explains Anthony Martial absence

Manchester United interim manager Ralf Rangnick has revealed that Anthony Martial is currently unavailable for selection due to a troublesome knee issue.

The France international was not in the squad for Sunday's Premier League game against Crystal Palace, with Rangnick saying ahead of the contest that the attacker had picked up an injury in training on Saturday.

The new Man United head coach has confirmed that Martial will also be absent against Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday, as the 26-year-old nurses his knee problem.

"Anthony trained on Saturday and half an hour after he had pain on his knee," Rangnick told reporters.

"We had a meeting with the medical department and we agreed he should try to recover. We need to make sure he reduces pain in the next few days and hopefully have him back training next week."

Martial has struggled to make his mark for the 20-time English champions during the 2021-22 campaign, managing just one goal in 10 appearances in all competitions.
