Former Manchester United midfielder Paddy Crerand criticises Roy Keane for agreeing with the referee's decision to send off Nani against Real Madrid.

Former Manchester United midfielder Paddy Crerand has hit back at ex-captain Roy Keane for claiming that Nani deserved to get sent off against Real Madrid during their Champions League defeat last night.

The Portugal international was controversially given his marching orders for a high challenge on Alvaro Arbeloa before Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo found the net to put Madrid through to the quarter-finals of the elite competition with a 2-1 win.

After the match, Keane was adamant that Nani was right to be given a straight red for appearing to clash with Arbeloa's ribs.

"Roy Keane was in a minority of one," Crerand told BBC Ulster. "Not one person said it was a red card except Roy. Roy Keane is the one person that has come out and categorically stated that he should have been sent off.

"Nobody else agrees with him so why are we talking about Roy Keane? Why do we not talk about the 99.9% of people who said it wasn't a sending off.

"Why are we talking about Roy Keane, because he played for Manchester United. Well, let me tell you something, I played with Manchester United, I played in a European Cup final, Roy didn't. The referee was wrong."

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson was "too distraught" to speak to the media after the game.
