Manchester City leapfrog Manchester United with win

A solitary Carlos Tevez goal gives Manchester City all three points against Swansea at the Etihad.

Manchester City have moved to within one point of league leaders Chelsea courtesy of a 1-0 win over Swansea this afternoon.

Carlos Tevez's second-half strike was enough to see off Michael Laudrup's men as the champions move above rivals Manchester United into second place.

Both sides struggled to create openings in the first 45 minutes, with the best chance of the half falling to Swansea with just five minutes left.

Michu raced through on goal with only Joe Hart to beat, but the England international made a fine save to deny the Spaniard.

City didn't test Michel Vorm until the 57th minute when Sergio Aguero's effort was comfortably saved by the Dutchman.

Michu had another chance to break the deadlock two minutes later when he stole in between to defenders to head goalwards, but Hart was equal to it.

The champions took the lead on the hour mark when Gael Clichy found Carlos Tevez, who proceeded to smash his effort past Vorm from 25 yards.

Jonathan de Guzman almost clawed a goal back for the Swans when he let fly from 30 yards out, but the effort flashed just wide.

Swansea couldn't find an equaliser in the closing stages, despite injuries causing 12 minutes of stoppage time to be added on.
